Child Counselling in Jaipur — It Is Not Your Fault, and It Is Fixable
If you are reading this at night after a fight with your child, start here: the fact that you are looking for help is evidence that you are a good parent, not a failing one.
Most parents who come to us for child counselling in Jaipur arrive carrying two things at once — frustration with their child, and guilt about the frustration. Both are normal. Neither means you have done something wrong.

Your child will not be labelled. Nothing goes on any record. The school is not informed.
When does a child need counselling?
Not for ordinary difficult phases. Consider it when a change has lasted more than four to six weeks and is affecting more than one area of life — for example sleep and school, or appetite and friendships.
Other reasonable triggers: a sudden drop in academic performance, withdrawal from activities they used to enjoy, frequent physical complaints with no medical cause, aggression that is escalating, or refusing to go to school. A single bad month is usually just a bad month.
Before the practicalities — is this you?
- "He was a good student until last year. Now he won't open a book."
- "She shouts at me over nothing, then cries, then apologises."
- "The phone is the only thing he cares about. If I take it, there is a scene."
If any of that is yours, you are reading the right page. The fuller list is in What parents actually come to us with below. What follows first is the plain practical answer: what we do about it, and what it costs.
What child counselling in Jaipur involves
We start with you, the parent. Your child is never labelled and nothing goes on any record.
- A parents-only first session — you speak openly without your child present, and we get the full picture first.
- Then your child separately, if they are willing. For a child, having one adult who is not grading or reporting to anyone is frequently the whole value.
- Age-appropriate methods — play, drawing and activity for younger children; direct conversation for teenagers, spoken to as people rather than managed.
- Parent guidance alongside, often the larger part of the work — how to respond to an outburst, set a limit that holds, and stop a nightly argument becoming routine.
- Routine and sleep correction — in a significant number of cases this alone resolves what looked like a behaviour problem.
- Negotiated screen structure rather than confiscation. A child who helped set the rule breaks it less often.
- Confidence building through graded exposure and genuine competence, not praise.

Why people choose Manorath for child counselling in Jaipur
- No labels, no diagnosis, no records. Nothing follows your child anywhere, and the school is never informed without your written consent.
- We work with the parent, not just the child. Most of the early change comes from how the household responds — not because you caused anything, but because that is the lever you actually control.
- A female professional is available. Many children, particularly girls and teenagers, open up more easily with a female counsellor.
- We refer for formal assessment. If we think ADHD, autism or a learning difficulty may be involved, we tell you and point you to someone qualified to assess it rather than keeping the case for months.
- Your child does not have to attend for this to work. Parent-only work is genuinely effective, and many families start that way.
- Online parent sessions and teenage counselling available.
What parents actually come to us with
Written in the words parents use:
- "He was a good student until last year. Now he won't open a book."
- "She shouts at me over nothing, then cries, then apologises."
- "The phone is the only thing he cares about. If I take it, there is a scene."
- "She says her stomach hurts every morning before school. The doctor says she is fine."
- "He has stopped telling me anything. I don't know who his friends are."
- "They have started lying about small things for no reason."
- "She says she is useless and nothing we say makes any difference."
- "He was fine before we moved him to the new school."
- "I lost my temper and said something I shouldn't have, and now I feel terrible."
That last one — almost every parent says some version of it. You are not the first and you have not broken anything permanent.
What is actually happening — the part that helps most
Understanding the mechanism changes how a parent responds. It is also the part nobody explains in a ten-minute paediatric appointment.
The brakes are not finished yet. The prefrontal cortex — responsible for impulse control, consequence prediction and emotional regulation — continues developing into the mid-twenties. The amygdala, which generates emotional reaction, is fully functional much earlier. So an adolescent has an adult accelerator and a learner's brakes. When your fourteen-year-old reacts out of all proportion and cannot explain why afterwards, that is not defiance — it is developmental, and it is temporary.
This is why "why did you do that?" gets you nothing. They genuinely do not know. Asking for a rational account of a reaction that bypassed the rational system produces either silence or an invented answer, which then looks like lying.
Screens and dopamine. Short-form video and gaming deliver fast, unpredictable reward — the most reinforcing pattern that exists for the dopamine system. Against that, homework offers delayed, uncertain reward. This is not a comparison a developing brain can win by willpower. It is also why "just concentrate" fails and why structured access limits work better than arguments about motivation.
Sleep. Adolescent circadian rhythm genuinely shifts later at puberty — they are not being lazy when they cannot sleep at 10pm. But school still starts at 7.30. The result is chronic sleep debt, and sleep-deprived teenagers are irritable, emotionally reactive, and perform worse academically. In a significant number of cases we see, fixing sleep resolves what looked like a behaviour problem. More on sleep.
Physical symptoms are real. A child whose stomach genuinely hurts before school is not inventing it. Anxiety activates the gut-brain axis and produces actual cramping and nausea. The pain is real; the cause is not in the stomach. Being told "there's nothing wrong with you" is both untrue and unhelpful. How the gut-brain axis works.
And the one most parents do not expect. Children absorb household tension even when nothing is said in front of them. They read tone, silence and atmosphere with considerable accuracy. A child's behaviour change is sometimes the first visible symptom of stress between the adults. We raise this gently, without blame, because it is common and because it is addressable. Marriage counselling is sometimes part of the answer.
What we work with
Behaviour and emotions: anger and outbursts · defiance and arguing · lying · withdrawal and not talking · low confidence and self-worth · anxiety · low mood · specific fears
School and studies: sudden drop in performance · not studying · poor concentration · school refusal · exam anxiety and blanking out · bullying · difficulty after changing school
Habits and routine: screen and mobile overuse · gaming · sleep problems · appetite changes · bedwetting
A note on bedwetting: please see a paediatrician before coming to us. Bedwetting can be caused by a urine infection, constipation, diabetes or sleep apnoea, and there are effective paediatric treatments for it. We work on the anxiety and the routine around it — not as a substitute for that check.
Social and family: making friends · social anxiety · sibling conflict · adjusting to a family change
The part other centres leave out
What child counselling in Jaipur can and cannot do
| What we can do | What we cannot do |
|---|---|
| Find what is driving the behaviour | Make a child change who refuses to engage at all |
| Give you specific ways to respond differently | Force a teenager to attend |
| Work with your child's anxiety or low mood | Diagnose ADHD, autism or a learning disability |
| Fix sleep and routine, which often changes a lot | Guarantee an improvement in marks |
| Reduce the nightly conflict | Replace a paediatrician or psychiatrist where needed |
| Build confidence and social skills gradually | Take sides between you and your child |
On assessment. If we think your child may have ADHD, a learning difficulty, autism or anything requiring formal assessment, we will tell you and point you to a child psychiatrist or clinical psychologist qualified to assess it. We do not diagnose, and we will not let a child go years without the right assessment because we kept the case.
One thing you can do this week
Parents usually want something immediate, so here is the single change that helps most households.
Find fifteen minutes a day with your child where nothing is being corrected. No homework, no phone, no "did you finish", no advice. Walk, drive, sit, play — anything, as long as you are not fixing them.
Most parent-child interaction in a stressed home becomes almost entirely instructional: get up, eat, study, stop, hurry. The child comes to associate your attention with being managed, and stops bringing you anything voluntarily. Fifteen minutes of neutral time, done daily for two weeks, changes that more than any conversation about behaviour will.
It is not therapy. It is the thing that makes therapy work faster.
How child counselling works at our Jaipur centre
We start with you, the parent. The first session is often parents only. You can speak openly without your child present, and we get the full picture before involving them.
Then we meet your child separately — if they are willing. For a child, having one adult who is not grading, correcting or reporting to anyone is frequently the entire value of counselling.
Age-appropriate methods. Younger children work through play, drawing and activity rather than sitting conversation. Teenagers are spoken to directly, as people, not managed.
Parent guidance alongside. Often the larger part of the work. How to respond to an outburst, how to set a limit that holds, how to raise a difficult subject, how to stop a nightly argument becoming routine.
Routine and sleep. Practical, specific, and measurable.
Screen structure. Negotiated boundaries rather than confiscation. A child who helped set the rule breaks it less often.
Confidence building. Graded exposure for avoidance, and genuine competence rather than praise.
No labels, no diagnosis, no records. We do not diagnose children, and nothing follows your child anywhere.
Your child counselling session in Jaipur — what happens
Registration — ₹500. Books a confirmed time slot.
First session. 45 minutes. ₹1,000 deposit in person, ₹500 online. Usually parents only. Full history — the behaviour, when it changed, school, sleep, screens, family circumstances, and any medical issues.
Then a plan: what we think is driving it, whether your child should attend, and what you can change at home immediately.
Following sessions. Typically around ₹2,000 each. Some weeks with your child, some with you. Both matter.
Consent. For under 18s we need parental consent, and we also need the child to be willing to participate. Counselling imposed on an unwilling teenager rarely works, and we will tell you honestly if that is the situation.
Language. Hindi or English.
Registration and deposit are non-refundable.
Your counsellor — a female professional is available
A female psychologist and counsellor is available for online consultation. Mention it when you book and your sessions are arranged with her.
Priyank Dadhich, founder — PGDYT (Post Graduate Diploma in Yoga Therapy), trained in naturopathy, clinical nutritionist. He has led the work at Manorath Wellness since the centre opened in 2022 — more than 4 years of solution-oriented practice in Jaipur.
Many children, particularly girls and particularly teenagers, open up more easily with a female counsellor. Tell us your preference at booking.
What results actually look like
Weeks 1 to 3: usually the household atmosphere before the child's behaviour. Fewer nightly arguments, because the parents have changed how they respond.
Weeks 4 to 8: sleep and routine settle. The child begins talking more. Physical complaints like morning stomach aches often reduce noticeably.
Two to three months: the behaviour itself, and school engagement. Academic results follow last — a child has to feel steady before they can concentrate.
What it asks of you: the parent changes come first. This is the part parents find hardest, and it is also what determines whether anything works. You cannot send a child to be fixed and keep the household unchanged.
What we will not promise: improved marks, a particular timeline, or a changed personality. Your child's temperament is theirs. What changes is their ability to manage it and yours to respond to it.
Child counselling in Jaipur — your questions answered
Bacche ka mann padhai me nahi lagta — kya counselling se fayda hoga?
Aksar haan, lekin pehle wajah dekhni padti hai. Padhai mein mann na lagna apne aap mein problem nahi hai — niche kuch aur hota hai: exam ka dar, school mein kuch, neend, screen, ghar ka mahaul, ya kabhi seekhne mein koi asli dikkat. Hum bacche ko label nahi karte aur diagnosis nahi dete. 18 saal se kam umar mein maa-baap saath hote hain. Ek cheez aaj se kar sakte hain: roz pandrah minute bacche ke saath, jisme kuch theek nahi karna — na padhai, na tok.
At what age can a child start counselling?
We work with children from around six upwards, with methods adapted by age. For under 18s, parental consent is required and parents are involved throughout. Below six, the work is almost entirely with the parents.
Does my child need to know they are going for counselling?
Yes, and it works far better when they do. We can help you have that conversation. Bringing a child under a false pretext damages trust and usually backfires in the first session.
Will my child be labelled or diagnosed?
No. We do not diagnose children and nothing goes on any record. If we think a formal assessment is needed — for ADHD or a learning difficulty, for instance — we tell you and refer you to someone qualified to do it.
Will the school be informed?
Not unless you ask us to and give written consent. School coordination can be useful in some cases, but it is always your decision.
Is child counselling confidential?
Yes. With older children and teenagers we also maintain a degree of confidentiality from the parent — otherwise they will not speak honestly. We tell both of you this at the start, and the exception is always safety: if a child is at risk, we will tell you.
My child refuses to come. What do I do?
Come alone. Parent-only work is genuinely effective — when you change how you respond, the dynamic changes even without the child in the room. Many families start exactly this way, and the child often agrees to come later.
Is my child too young for this to be a real problem?
Children do have anxiety, low mood and real distress, and it shows differently from adults — as anger, stomach pain, clinginess or regression rather than as stated worry. If something has changed and lasted more than a few weeks, it is worth looking at.
How do I handle my child's mobile and screen addiction?
Confiscation produces a fight and teaches nothing. What works is structured, negotiated limits the child helped set, screen-free periods anchored to routine rather than behaviour, and replacing the time rather than simply removing it. We work this out specifically for your household.
Is it my fault?
Almost never in the way parents fear. Children's difficulties come from temperament, development, school, peers, sleep, screens and circumstance, usually in combination. What we do work on is how the household responds — not because you caused it, but because that is the lever you actually control.
My child says they are useless and worthless. Should I be worried?
Take it seriously and do not argue them out of it — that teaches them not to tell you. Say you have heard them and you are getting support. If a child ever mentions wanting to die or harm themselves, treat it as urgent: contact a child psychiatrist, or Tele-MANAS on 14416, which is free and available 24 hours.
Can I get child counselling in Jaipur online instead of visiting?
For parent sessions and for teenagers, yes. For younger children, in person works considerably better since the methods involve play and activity.
What are your fees for child counselling in Jaipur?
₹500 registration, then ₹1,000 deposit in person or ₹500 online for the first session. Sessions after that are typically around ₹2,000 each. All non-refundable.
Will counselling improve my child's marks?
Possibly, but not directly and not quickly. Marks follow emotional steadiness, not the other way round. Anyone promising you grade improvement from counselling is overselling.
