CBT Therapy in Jaipur — Shown With a Real Example, Not a Definition
You have probably already read what cognitive behavioural therapy is. A definition does not tell you whether it will help you.
So this page does something different: it walks through an actual thought loop, step by step, and shows where CBT therapy in Jaipur breaks it. If the mechanism makes sense to you by the end, you will know whether this is worth your money.

What is CBT and how does it work?
CBT is a structured, time-limited therapy based on one observation: a situation does not produce an emotion directly. The interpretation between them does. Two people miss the same promotion; one concludes "I need to improve my pitch", the other concludes "I am not good enough and everyone can see it".
Same event, very different feeling and very different next move. CBT works by locating those automatic interpretations, testing them against evidence, and changing the behaviours that keep them alive. It is among the most heavily researched psychological treatments, with the strongest evidence in anxiety, OCD and depression.
Before the practicalities — is this you?
- You have understood your problem for years and the understanding has changed nothing
- You know the thought is irrational while you are having it, and it makes no difference
- You want a method with steps and homework, not open-ended talking
If that is you, CBT is probably the right method — and The worked example further down shows you exactly how it runs. What follows first is the plain practical answer: what it involves, and what it costs.
What CBT therapy in Jaipur involves
Structured, measured and time-limited. You should be able to see whether it is working.
- Assessment and formulation in the first one or two sessions — your specific loops, written down as a map you can actually look at.
- Thought records — catching the automatic interpretation at the time, not from memory. For many people this is the single most useful skill they learn.
- Behavioural experiments — testing your predictions against what actually happens, repeatedly, until the prediction updates.
- Graded exposure where avoidance is part of the problem.
- Behavioural activation for low mood.
- Homework between sessions — small and specific, and where the change happens.
- Measurement — we track whether symptoms are reducing. If they are not after a reasonable number of sessions, we change approach or refer you.
- Relapse prevention in the final sessions, so you become your own therapist.
Session format: 45 minutes · usually weekly · Hindi or English · online or at our Mansarovar centre

Why people choose Manorath for CBT therapy in Jaipur
- We tell you where CBT is not the right tool — grief, trauma, long-standing relationship difficulty, severe depression. We refer you rather than selling you the wrong therapy.
- We measure progress, so neither of us is guessing. If it is not working we say so instead of continuing to bill you.
- Time-limited by design. CBT has an expected endpoint. We will tell you roughly how many sessions after the formulation.
- CBT in Hindi, routinely. You can write your thought records in whichever language you think in.
- Online CBT works well — much of it is structured material and written exercises, and research shows comparable results to in-person for many conditions.
- A female professional is available.
The worked example
A real pattern, the kind we see weekly.
The situation. Your manager sends a message: "Can we talk tomorrow at 11?"
The automatic thought. "I'm in trouble. Something is wrong. Maybe they're letting me go." This arrives in under a second. You do not choose it, and you may not even notice you have had it — you only notice the feeling that follows.
The emotion. Dread. Then the physical part: tight chest, stomach dropping, heart rate rising. Your amygdala has registered a threat and triggered a stress response. That is a real physiological event, not an attitude problem.
The behaviour. You re-read the message twenty times. You mentally rehearse disasters. You do not sleep. You draft a defensive reply and delete it. Perhaps you avoid work entirely in the morning.
What that behaviour does. It confirms the threat. Your brain learns: that message was dangerous, and the vigilance was necessary. The next similar message arrives and the whole sequence fires faster.
The meeting. It is about a project timeline. Thirty seconds in, it is clear nothing was wrong.
And here is the part that matters: you feel relief, not correction. You do not conclude "my prediction was wrong, I should trust these less." You conclude "I got lucky this time." So nothing is learned, and next month it happens again, identically.
Where CBT breaks that loop
Four specific intervention points. This is the actual method, not a summary of it.
1. Catching the thought. Most people experience the feeling but never see the thought that caused it. A thought record — written at the time, not from memory — makes the automatic thought visible. For many people this is the single most useful thing they learn, because you cannot examine a thought you have not noticed.
2. Testing it. Not positive thinking. Evidence. What has actually happened the last fifteen times I received a message like this? What is the realistic probability? If the worst did happen, what would I actually do? Anxiety treats possibility as probability, and testing that distinction reduces the charge considerably.
3. Naming the distortion. These patterns have names because they are predictable:
- Catastrophising — jumping to the worst outcome
- Mind reading — assuming you know what someone thinks of you
- All-or-nothing thinking — one mistake means total failure
- Emotional reasoning — "I feel like a failure, therefore I am one"
- Discounting the positive — the praise did not count, the criticism did
- Should statements — rigid rules you only apply to yourself
Learning to recognise your own two or three habitual ones is a durable skill. Most people keep using it years after therapy ends.
4. Changing the behaviour. The most important step and the one people most want to skip. You reduce the checking, the re-reading, the rehearsing, the avoidance — and discover the feared outcome does not follow. The brain only updates a threat prediction through experience, not through reassurance. This is why talking about a fear forever rarely resolves it, and why exposure does.
The part other centres leave out
What CBT therapy in Jaipur can and cannot do
What usually improves: anxiety intensity and frequency first, often within four to six sessions. Then the avoidance behaviour. Then your confidence that you can handle the situation at all — which is the part that lasts.
What it asks of you: the homework. CBT asks more of the patient than most therapies, because the method is practice. If you want to talk for an hour weekly without doing anything in between, general counselling will suit you better and we will say so.
What it will not do: it will not remove difficult feelings from your life, and it is not positive thinking. It makes you better at handling thoughts and situations that currently overwhelm you. It does not work on everyone, and if it is not working for you we will tell you rather than continuing to bill you.
When we refer out: severe depression, psychosis, bipolar disorder, active suicidal thoughts, or anything needing medication. If you are in crisis, call Tele-MANAS on 14416 — free, 24 hours — or go to your nearest hospital.
What CBT therapy in Jaipur works well for
CBT has strong evidence for some things and is not the right tool for others. We would rather tell you which before you pay.
| Strong evidence | CBT is useful but not the main tool |
|---|---|
| Anxiety and generalised worry | Grief and bereavement |
| Panic attacks | Long-standing relationship difficulty |
| OCD — using ERP | Marriage conflict |
| Social anxiety and stage fear | Life direction and career confusion |
| Specific phobias | Severe depression needing psychiatric care |
| Mild to moderate low mood | Psychosis or bipolar disorder |
| Insomnia — CBT-I | Trauma — needs trauma-specific therapy |
| Exam and performance anxiety | |
| Health anxiety |
For the right-hand column we use general counselling or refer you on.
Why CBT changes the brain, not just the mood
Neuroplasticity. Repeated practice physically strengthens some neural pathways and weakens others. CBT is deliberate, structured repetition of a different response — which is why homework between sessions is not optional padding. The six days between sessions are where the change happens.
Prefrontal regulation. The prefrontal cortex assesses whether a threat is real and dampens the amygdala's alarm. Under chronic stress this regulating influence weakens. CBT strengthens it through practice, deliberately.
Extinction learning. When you face a feared situation and nothing bad happens, repeatedly, the brain forms a new prediction alongside the old one. The old fear is not erased — which is why it can resurface under stress — but the new learning becomes stronger and more accessible. This is also why relapse is not failure and why the techniques are worth keeping.
How CBT therapy runs at our Jaipur centre
Structured and time-limited. CBT is not open-ended talking. There is a formulation, goals, and an expected endpoint. You should be able to see whether it is working.
Assessment and formulation. First one or two sessions: understanding your specific loops and writing them down as a map you can see.
Skills in session. Thought records, behavioural experiments, graded exposure hierarchies, behavioural activation for low mood.
Homework between sessions. Small and specific. People who do it progress noticeably faster, and we will tell you honestly if it is not being done.
Measurement. We track whether symptoms are actually reducing. If there is no movement after a reasonable number of sessions, we change approach or refer you, rather than continuing indefinitely.
Relapse prevention. The final sessions make you your own therapist — what your early warning signs are, and which techniques to restart.
In Hindi or English. CBT translates well into Hindi, and we do this routinely. Thought records can be written in either language, or in both.
Alongside other work. CBT combines well with breathwork and nervous system regulation, yoga therapy and sleep correction — the physiological side, where CBT is the cognitive side.
Your CBT sessions in Jaipur — what happens
Registration — ₹500. Books a confirmed time slot.
First session. 45 minutes. ₹1,000 deposit in person, ₹500 online. History, current symptoms, and an initial formulation. By the end you should understand your own loop.
Following sessions. Typically around ₹2,000 each. Usually weekly, because the momentum between sessions matters in CBT more than in open-ended therapy.
How many CBT sessions are needed? For a specific anxiety or phobia, often eight to twelve. OCD with ERP usually needs longer. Low mood varies. You will have a realistic range after the formulation.
Language. Hindi or English.
Registration and deposit are non-refundable.

CBT therapy in Jaipur — your questions answered
What is cognitive behavioural therapy in simple terms?
It is structured therapy based on the idea that your interpretation of a situation — not the situation itself — produces the emotion. It identifies the automatic interpretations driving your distress, tests them against evidence, and changes the behaviours keeping them alive.
Does CBT actually work for anxiety?
It has the strongest research evidence of any psychological treatment for anxiety disorders, and for many people it is as effective as medication without the side effects. It is not universal — nothing is — and some people need both.
How many CBT sessions will I need?
A specific anxiety or phobia typically takes eight to twelve sessions. OCD usually needs more. You will have a realistic estimate after the first one or two sessions, once the formulation is done.
How is CBT different from normal counselling?
CBT is structured, goal-directed and time-limited, with homework between sessions and measurement of progress. General counselling is more open-ended and exploratory. Both are valid; they suit different people and different problems.
Is CBT available in Hindi in Jaipur?
Yes. CBT translates well into Hindi and we run sessions in Hindi routinely. You can write your thought records in whichever language you think in.
Is CBT therapy in Jaipur available online as well?
Yes. CBT works particularly well online because so much of it is structured material and written exercises. Research shows online CBT performs comparably to in-person for many conditions.
How much do you charge for CBT therapy in Jaipur?
₹500 registration, then ₹1,000 deposit in person or ₹500 online for the first session. Sessions after that are typically around ₹2,000 each. All non-refundable.
Is CBT just positive thinking?
No, and this is the most common misunderstanding. CBT does not ask you to replace a negative thought with a cheerful one. It asks you to test whether the thought is accurate — and sometimes the accurate conclusion is still unwelcome. The point is realism, not optimism.
Do I have to do homework?
Yes, and it is where most of the progress happens. If that does not suit you, say so and we will suggest a different approach rather than setting you up to fail.
Will CBT work if I am also on medication?
Yes, and the combination is often more effective than either alone. Never change prescribed medication on your own — that is your psychiatrist's decision.
What if CBT does not work for me?
We measure, so we will know. If there is no movement after a reasonable number of sessions, we change the approach or refer you on. We will not keep billing you for something that is not working.
Is CBT suitable for children?
Adapted versions exist for older children and teenagers. For under 18s we need parental consent and involvement — see child and teenage counselling.
